I always feel like I need a vacation after my vacation, and the thought of going back to work is not helping. Don’t you feel the same?
After a glorious seven days of lying on a beach, doing absolutely nothing but stare at the sky and enjoy the cold drinks – I still need a few more days to recover, to get back to reality and re-adjust to normality again. But what if going back to work isn’t as difficult as think?
Ideas To Help You Make The Transition Back To Work After A Holiday
1. Don’t go into the office the day after you get back home. There are probably tons of emails in your inbox, but if they’ve waited all this time, one more day is not going to make a difference.
Instead, take a day to do the things that you need completed so that you can feel that everything is sorted out. For instance, I can’t fall asleep if I haven’t unpacked and done my laundry. It haunts me.
And then – I have to get my dog back from my parents and meet my friends to catch up. These are the things that really matter. The things that help to make my return to normality more bearable!
2. When you do get to the office – try to prioritize the long list of things that you have to do. As you scroll through your emails and look for those that are urgent. Sometimes it makes things easier if you highlight all of the urgent emails in a different color.
Watching them disappear after you’ve dealt with each request, will be a huge relief. You will also feel super productive!
3. Try to look at things in a different way. You’ve been away for a while. You’ve seen that life can be easy and fun. Why not make it like that at work too? It’s all a matter of perspective and if we tell ourselves work is fun – it will eventually become fun!
It’s important to always keep in mind that no matter what, our main goal is to be happy. And we need to work as hard as we can to reach that goal.
4. Start dreaming about your next vacation. Yes, you might have just got back, but who knows, in a few weeks, you could be off on another holiday again.
It’s just as we tell our children when they are in school, if you get a good grade, you can get that special toy that you want. So, rewarding ourselves is a good incentive to be more productive at work. It will also put us in a better mood, because we know that something good is on the way!
After an amazing vacation, going back to work can be difficult. But, if we look at it as a stepping stone to our next holiday- it can make things so much better. Can you see it? Yes it’s all in your head. Visualizing that beach yet?
